Long Term Substance Abuse Recovery Group
Group for adults aged 25-65 that focuses on the mid to late themes/phases of recovery.
What : This is an open ended mixed gender group for adults aged 25 to 65 that focuses on the mid to late themes/phases of recovery. The goals of this group are to expand coping capacity, enhance performance, and improve relationships. This is accomplished by promoting self understanding, psychological growth, emotional healing, and true intimacy. The group provides support, structure, and interactional opportunities to experience honesty, pride, spontaneity, acceptance, compromise, and uncertainty. This learning can help the group to exercise its power, make decisions, and develop intentions that support the preferences that are envisioned. Members examine the effect that their behavior has on others and in turn how their behavior affects them in addition to exploring the cultural and societal forces that have contributed to their substance abuse. Members work to understand how they defend and react by confronting their attitudes, interpersonal style, communicate needs and express feelings directly and immediately. The role of personal responsibility, informed motivation, and mobilizing resources is viewed as a critical aspect of intentional change as a tool for renewal and recovery.
